Who is behind Ruckus Media?
Ruckus Media has been founded by Rick Richter, the former head of kids' books at CBS Corp.'s Simon & Schuster. There he established the company as a children’s and young adult publisher of many bestselling brands, including Olivia and The Spiderwick Chronicles, He’s Just Not That Into You and Yes, Man. In 1990, he also co-founded Candlewick Press.
Today he his behind Ruckus Media and with his team reinvents family entertainment. His goal and vision for children book apps are:
“My biggest goal is to have a mom, dad, or care giver, give a child an iPad or iPhone with complete confidence that he or she will be entertained and satisfied with our apps.”
So how different are Ruckus Media book apps?
Ruckus Media is focusing on family entertainment and has created a new and innovative type of kids’ book apps. Ruckus Media offers what we may call a “3 in 1” book apps where children can:
- Discover a book as an animated video, where the story is beautifully illustrated and narrated by famous actors such as Robin Williams, Meryl Streep, or Denzel Washington. A unique way to present a book apps today.
- Read a book, just read and slide each page as you would do with a paper book. Read it with your kids or let them read it by themselves.
- Finally, Ruckus Media gives you the option to record your own voice. A way to personalize your book, record your own voice so your kids can listen to you reading the story when you are away, or have your kids records their voice and practice reading with expression. With such a high quality narration, it can be a great exercise for your kids to read with as much expression as Robin Williams or Meryl Streep.
No kids’ book apps today feature animated video; you either have videos, or books apps, so we asked Rick:
Why did you introduce animated video into book apps?
" First of all, we thought it was tremendous value to present Rabbit Ears videos to books and introduce the read and record feature. Secondly, animation leaves a lot of room for imaginations to grow. The animated video is a great addition to book apps, it allows children to engage in a book by listening and watching. Animation doesn’t take away from the book experience- we think that it supplements the book experience."
Today Ruckus Media applies its unique concept to 5 amazing book apps and many other ones are on the way.
